Terms of Service

AlgoBall is an independent fantasy basketball analytics service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the National Basketball Association, any NBA team, or any fantasy sports platform, including CBS Sports, ESPN, and Yahoo. Team and player names are used descriptively to identify real people and organizations.

You can use AlgoBall's public tools without an account. An account lets you connect your league, follow players, and save your settings. When you create an account, you must provide an email address you control, and you are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your password to yourself. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access to it.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use AlgoBall with a parent or guardian's involvement.

You can delete your account at any time, and we will delete the data associated with it as described in our Privacy Policy.

AlgoBall works by reading your fantasy league, rosters, settings, and schedule, from the platform where that league lives, using a bookmarklet you run yourself while signed in to that platform. You are the one initiating that import, from your own account, with data you already have access to.

Your use of those platforms remains governed by their own terms of service. You are responsible for ensuring that importing your league data into AlgoBall is permitted by the platform you are importing from. We do not access any fantasy platform on your behalf, and we do not store your credentials for those platforms, we never see them.

Import only leagues you actually participate in or have permission to access. Do not use AlgoBall to collect data about leagues you are not part of.

What you put into AlgoBall stays yours.Your imported league, your ranking profiles, your overrides, your notes and your settings (together, "your content") belong to you. We do not claim ownership of any of it, and nothing in this section transfers ownership to us.

We do need permission to handle it, because a service that stores and analyses your league cannot do either without it. So you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, transmit, display back to you, reformat and analyse your content, for these purposes only:

• To operate the service and show you your own league.
• To keep the service secure, debug it, and back it up.
• To improve and develop it, including testing whether a change to our models actually makes them more accurate.
• To create de-identified, aggregated statistics keyed to NBA players, such as how often a player was drafted and at what pick, or how often he was added, dropped or started. We may use those in the product, publish them, and license them to others.

This license lasts as long as we hold your content. When you delete your account, it ends, along with the content itself. The one thing that survives is the player-keyed aggregates already derived: once your draft has been pooled anonymously into a market average across many leagues, there is no longer a piece of that number that is yours to withdraw. Our Privacy Policy says the same thing in the same words.

What this license does not include. It is deliberately narrow, and these limits are part of the agreement, not commentary on it:

• It grants us no right to sell or share your personal information. Aggregates keyed to NBA players are not personal information; nothing keyed to you, your account or your league may be sold, licensed or published under this license, or under any reading of it.
• It grants us nothing at all in respect of the other managers in your league. You could not give us rights over their information even if you wanted to, because it is not yours to license. Their team names are used to draw your league and for nothing else, and they never enter anything we publish or license.
• It does not let us publish your league, your rosters, your transactions or your settings in a form that identifies you, your league, or anyone in it.
• It is not a license to anything you did not put into AlgoBall.

If we ever want to do something with your content that these purposes do not cover, that is a change to our Privacy Policy, and it comes with advance notice, plus your explicit opt-in where the change is one you should get a say in. Changing the policy later does not retroactively widen this license over data you gave us under a narrower one.

You are responsible for what you submit.By importing a league you confirm you are entitled to the data you are importing (§3) and that submitting it does not breach anyone else's rights.

What is ours.AlgoBall's rankings, projections, models, ratings, aggregate datasets, software, design and content are ours, and using the service does not transfer any of it to you. You may use our output for your own fantasy teams, which is the entire point; §6 covers what you may not do with it.

Feedback. If you send us a suggestion, we may act on it freely and without obligation to you. We would rather hear it than not, and we do not want a bug report to become a rights negotiation.

AlgoBall is free, and signing up never asks for a card. The signup page says exactly that, and this section is not a quiet exception to it: we are not going to put a price on something you already use, and we will not turn an existing free account into a paid one. If we ever build a genuinely new paid feature, it would be something you choose to buy, and we would tell you before it arrived.

Free does not mean we may not earn money elsewhere. We may make money from the de-identified, player-keyed aggregates described in §4, the market statistics the product produces as a by-product of running. To be plain about the trade: you are not owed a share of that, and you are not charged for the product either. What we may not do is sell anything about you, which §4 and our Privacy Policy both forbid.

You agree not to:

• Use AlgoBall for anything unlawful, or to violate anyone else's rights.
• Attempt to access accounts, leagues, or data that are not yours.
• Scrape, resell, or systematically extract AlgoBall's rankings, projections, or other analysis for redistribution as a competing product.
• Interfere with the service, probing, overloading, or circumventing rate limits and access controls.
• Use AlgoBall to place, broker, or facilitate wagers where doing so is illegal.

We may suspend or close an account that does these things. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.

AlgoBall produces projections, rankings, and recommendations. These are estimates generated by statistical models. They are frequently wrong, in the ordinary sense that all forecasts about future sporting events are frequently wrong. Nothing AlgoBall outputs is a guarantee, a promise of a result, or advice about anything with money attached to it.

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any data shown is accurate or current.

NBA statistics and schedule data are supplied by third parties. We pass on what we receive and correct what we can, but we do not control it and cannot guarantee it.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AlgoBall and the people who build it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or opportunity, arising out of or relating to your use of the service, including any decision you made in a fantasy league on the basis of something AlgoBall told you.

Because AlgoBall is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the above applies to the fullest extent the law allows, and nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

AlgoBall is under active development. Features will change, and some will be removed. We may also update these terms. If we make a material change, we will give notice, by email to the address on your account, or by a notice in the product, before it takes effect. Continuing to use AlgoBall after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

You may stop using AlgoBall and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, or discontinue the service entirely. If we shut the service down, we will give reasonable advance notice so you can export or delete your data.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
